First and foremost, let’s get started with my favorite nursing scrubs: FIGS!

In this post, I will discuss why I love this company, the many colors that I own, my favorite styles, the sizing I wear (for your reference), and some commonly asked questions!

It is a known fact that nurses work long, exhausting shifts. For any nurse, shift essentials most likely include comfortable, high-quality scrubs, durable shoes, compression socks, a reliable stethoscope, large water bottle, and a great pen. I’ve gone through my fair share of all of these items—some that I’ve purchased myself and some that have been gifted to me. Scrubs are quickly becoming a fashion statement in the healthcare world. And it’s true that people “judge a book by its cover.” Especially when you’re caring for the one thing (their baby) that they love more than anything else in the entire world! Since my first day stepping foot into the NICU in 2017, I have exclusively worn FIGS. Why? Because FIGS gets it!

FIGS proudly serves as the innovative voice that has reshaped the “uniforms” of modern healthcare. FIGS is the only brand that offers products reflective of my values and gives back to the community just as I do as a neonatal nurse. FIGS is more than a company that sells uniforms but rather a lifestyle that emphasizes comfort and functionality for healthcare professionals from all walks of life. The quality of FIGS is unbeatable compared to other brands. This is the most important factor that I look for when purchasing scrubs. My FIGS have outlasted scrubs from other companies that I purchased at the exact same time. Below are some photos of my very first pairs of FIGS that I purchased back in 2017. These photos were taken in 2020.

As you can see, these scrubs have ZERO rips, tears, stains, bleeds, shrinkages, or any decrease in quality for that matter. And trust me, I am not one who is gentle when it comes to my scrubs. I (literally) throw them in the washer and dryer and mix them with other colors and clothes. Everyday, my scrubs are baptized with some form of bodily fluid—urine, stool, vomit, blood, sputum, breastmilk, etc. After three years of wear, they clearly haven’t faded, and the color is still as vibrant as ever. Also, the fabric is incredibly lightweight, soft, moisture-wicking, and wrinkle-resistant, which is a HUGE bonus. In addition, FIGS has a ton of different fits and styles to choose from, not to mention the unique and eye-catching colors that are so stunning and professional.

The diversity of colors is great for all healthcare workers. Some hospitals require employees to wear a certain color depending on their roll and field. These colors are also great for nursing students depending on the color that your school requires you to wear for clinicals. I would say that I have a pretty good mix of core colors (scrubs available year round) and seasonal colors (ones that pop up sporadically). If there was a color that you missed out on, one that’s out of stock in your size, or one that you are DYING for them to carry, reach out via email, text, or DM because they take all of your requests into consideration. Here are some pictures of FIGS scrubs that I own, along with the size, color, and style names as a reference.

As you can see, I am pretty #basic when it comes to my scrubs. I don’t like a lot of action or pizzaz. The majority of my scrub tops are the Casma Three-Pocket, and every single scrub pant is the Kade Petite Cargo. Just recently, I started wearing the Catarina One-Pocket scrub top, and I am a big fan! I absolutely love the Kade pants for a variety of reasons. For one, the drawstring tie on the waistband is always a fun, unique, pop of color. The second reason being the cargo pockets! They are the perfect size for my cell phone and work phone. I can also throw in my report sheets and a pen too if needed. I do not tuck in my scrub tops at work, only when posing for #Instagram ;) If I didn’t need the functionality of the pockets, however, I would probably choose the Catarina One-Pocket.

If you’re in between sizes, I would recommend sizing up. Wearing something too tight may be uncomfortable, especially if you’re working a long shift. I have found that the fit does not vary from color to color. I am always, always, always a petite XS in my pants and a regular XS in my tops regardless of the color. I am 5’1” with short legs, and FIGS is the ONLY brand that actually caters to my needs!

FIGS scrubs are hands down my #1 favorite brand due to their reliability as well as the many reasons listed in this post. And honestly, FIGS makes you feel like an instant bad@$$! I can’t even describe the feeling. But if you’ve ever seen someone wearing FIGS in person, then you know exactly what I’m talking about. FIGS makes you look like, “Damn! Look at her! Who is that? Because I want to be like that when I grow up!”

I am a strong believer that what you wear affects how you feel and ultimately, how you perform. I have helped to give neonates a better chance of not only surviving but also thriving due to the dedicated care that I provide because of how FIGS make me feel. Eating, sleeping, and breathing in FIGS allows me to feel my very best so that I can perform at my utmost potential everyday!
